Breastfeeding is a social act and human lactation is a biological change following the birthing of a baby.
Although breastfeeding is the physiological norm, for many it is not easy, sometimes not enjoyable and rarely for a few, impossible. All of these mixed feelings and realities are OK, or if they don’t feel like it now, they will be!
You may need support with issues ranging from sore nipples, nipple shape change, breast pain (ranging from shooting, dull, cold, achy), milk blisters/blebs, milk delay, low milk supply (perceived or actual), vasospasm, mastitis to positioning and attaching your baby for an effective latch.
Your baby may have jaundice, be premature, be sleepy, unsettled before during and after a feed, not have enough urine or faeces output or slow at gaining weight. All of these are of concern and a lactation consultant/breastfeeding specialist can support you with them.

It is OK to be combination feeding using formula. It is absolutely possible to move on to breastfeeding exclusively if this is your wish. We will do everything to support you in achieving this. We are here to listen and help you to process your feelings about combination feeding and other emotions you may find yourself feeling since becoming a mother.
